The compulsion of a technologically connected world to consume spectacle transfixes our attention as we move from one news event to the next. Simultaneously, the relational space between individuals is getting more complex due to the ease of modern mobility and the opportunity for people to globally connect.  Paradoxically, interpersonal space has widened as people have become more interconnected. Through my art practice, I seek to reclaim a contemplative space despite the compelling impulse of the contemporary moment.

My art practice is process driven.  I do not typically plan my artwork, but through the alchemy of materials and movement, I seek those moments when thought dissipates, blurring the boundaries of any specific narrative content. Although memory, individual dislocation, communal alienation, my fear of rising authoritarianism, and the grief of losing loved ones during the pandemic tend to form the backdrop of my practice, I am resistant to tie my work down with too much narrative baggage.

For me, painting is about the experience and process of making hand-made objects; a participation in the continuum of human mark-making. The marks stand on their own, outside of the political and cultural context of their creation, reminding us poetically of our shared unity.
